Rapla church
Rapla Church is located in the town of Rapla by the river Vigala. Built in 1901, Rapla Church is one of the cleanest neo-Romanesque buildings in Estonia. The peculiarity of the Rapla church compared to other rural churches lies primarily in its large dimensions and its facade with two towers. According to legend, the first church in Rapla parish was built on top of a gravel hill in Kuusiku. However, this construction did not work: no matter how hard the builders tried, the work progressed persistently. Eventually the builders realized that this place was not pleasing to God. When they tried to build a church in Raikküla, the monks also called for help. The work still did not progress. The monks begged for the end of the night on the walls of the church, but that didn't help either. Then the men stopped work and turned to the sage for advice. It ordered the oxen to be harnessed in front of the cart and let them start walking with the load of stones themselves. Where the bulls stop, there is the right place to build a church. The oxen passed the Rapla manor, crossed the river and stopped under a giant tree. So it was decided to build a church by the river Vigala.
